A round hand carved wooden Kava bowl supported with four short Legs from the tribal people of Lau Islands, Fiji. This Bowl has two large cowrie shells attached to one side with a long braided fiber rope. Large bowls of this kind are cut from a single block of wood, and were for the mixing of kava a drink made from the roots and stems of the pepper bush mixed with water.A cupper plate is attached on the front side with the following text: “Presented to the Lord Mayor of London from the Mayor and counselor of the city of Suva”
