In SW Malekula Island these Puppet Heads are known as “Temes Nevimbur” they are used during important ceremonies by members of a secret society, such as “Nevimbur”. The Puppet Heads are seen from behind the communities dancing ground fence (a sacred area)
With a long nose, oval eyes and a mouth adorned with two pig's canines.
The head attached to a stick is covered with pandanus leaf headdress.
Coated with clay, Fiber, plants materials, breadfruit tree sap. Fibres, red, black, white and blue pigments.
