The example reproduced symbolises the principle of the three worlds. The crowned snakes Naga are standing on Bedawang Nala, the turtle. The male figure on top represents god. Such statues of animals with gods on their backs are carried around during processions. The statues are placed on altars and receive offerings during temple festivities.
