A Rare 19th Century Toraja Shield, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, carved from a single piece of wood in a triangular section, with panels inlaid with Nassa and Mother of Pearl shells and bone chevrons interspersed with rattan and tufts of human hair, the reverse with integral handle. The Kanta is a traditional shield of the Toraja and Pamona people of Tana Toraja Regency, South Sulawesi
