Ivory coast, West Africa

Ex collection Klaus Böttger, Wiesbaden

Bronze, 7 x 6 cm

This bronze Senufo pendant from the boarderlands of Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast would have been used around the turn of the century as a divining tool. Diviners existed much as doctors and councilors, using small sculptures to call upon the power of the natural world and to prescribe spiritual and medical advice.
